New Year Resolution Must-Haves
Many of us have lofty goals each year to make a list of New Year’s resolutions to better ourselves, whether physically or mentally. But are we giving ourselves a real shot? There's a reason why 80% of people fail to keep their New Year's resolutions after the first week. The problem is that we have a habit of holding ourselves to impossible standards and expectations when doable and long-term resolutions can be easily achievable yet equally rewarding.
So, today, we'll share some achievable micro goals for a healthy and productive 2023 that you can add to your to-do list.
1. Make a point to sit less and move more
We're all guilty of sitting too much thanks to desk jobs, long commutes, and stay-at-home orders. Sitting, it turns out, is the new smoking in that it's bad for your health. So make it a goal to include daily walks, biking, or even swimming - something to get you up and moving more frequently.
2. Make time for an adventure
Even though the pandemic is far from over, you can still have fun. Set goals to make time for adventure, even if it is only locally. You could go camping, island hopping, or plan a staycation at a local resort built relatively close to nature. Simply changing your routine may take you to unexpected places.
If you’re out of ideas, we suggest taking time to reach out to our team at Novus Jiva, Anyer. We have plenty of activities indoors and outdoors that promise a thoroughly great time!
3. Practice more gratitude
Developing an attitude of gratitude has been proven to be very beneficial for one’s health. You don’t have to be a zen monk to practice gratitude – it can be practiced in little ways, including beginning a gratitude notebook or listening to a guided meditation on the topic.
4. Drink more water each day
You’ll be surprised at the wonders of what drinking water can do for your body. Start by replacing your favorite unhealthy drink with plain water. Instead of reaching out for coffee in the morning, go for a cup of water. Experiment with ice water and fruit-infused water to make drinking it a fun one!
5. Declutter weekly
Do you know that a cluttered place can make you feel more stressed? Everyone has that one spot in their home that is always a mess. There might be a stack of books in one corner and a pile of laundry in another. Instead of trying to do everything at once, break the task into smaller parts. Before you know it, you'd be able to keep your favorite spot in perfect shape.
6. Lessen your screen time
This may be one of the hardest things to do since most of us spend most of the day glued to our screens. But constantly scrolling can wear out our brains and make us more anxious. Give your eyes a break from the blue light and take time to unplug. A trip to nature can do you a lot of good. Get away from your gadgets and detox from social media to enjoy the here and now.
7. Dedicate more quality time to loved ones
With many of us returning to work after a long period of WFH, the amount of time we spend with our families may be decreasing. Don't forget to set aside time to plan quality time together, such as a weekly family dinner, finding a family-friendly activity in your neighborhood, or organize a weekend family staycation.
8. Create a bedtime routine
It's terrible to go to bed anxious, and then awaken in the wee hours of the morning still fretting over your to-do list. To help you unwind, it's a good idea to treat yourself to a relaxing evening routine at the end of the day.
You can try these easy routines before bedtime:
- Listen to a guided meditation for sleep
- Do light stretches to relax the muscle
- Put away your phone and read something easy
- Enjoy a warm brew of tea
- Journaling
9. Finally, ditch one bad habit
Pick one bad habit that’s getting in the way of your life and work on getting rid of it. It could be procrastination, biting your nails, smoking, or overspending. Find ways to break these bad habits, such as reading self-help books, going to therapy, or simply substituting the good for the bad. You can't expect to be perfect right away, but if you persevere, you will get there!
10. Take time to appreciate your accomplishments
Nowadays, it seems like there's a constant emphasis on being productive. As soon as one task is completed, another begins. What we forget is that it’s equally important to finding time to congratulate ourselves and look back on what we’ve done well. Shake things up and take some time to appreciate yourself. Give yourself a pat on the back the next time you complete a task because you did an excellent job!
This New Year, ditch the impossible resolutions and set some achievable goals that will help you live a healthier and more productive life. We hope these tips have helped inspire you to make a list of your own micro goals for 2023.
